What supplemental resources should I be using alongside this question bank (if any)?
Back to topEvidence-based and up-to-date medicine in Canada is a critical component in ensuring your knowledge of the materials being tested as outlined by the MCC objectives. We recommend using relevant Canadian guidelines (such as from the Canadian Task Force) when possible or information from the Canadian Pharmacists Association to further understand the information you’re being tested on. You’ll notice that all our answers are sourced and referenced so you know the information in correct.

How are the questions created?
Back to topAll our questions are crowd-sourced, fact-checked and cross-referenced. We encourage physicians to contribute to our growing question bank but we’re also very strict about plagiarism and copyright infringement. All questions are authored by individuals, who have their initials noted in each question. This is unique to NorthernDx. While there are many other question banks out there, including those from the Medical Council of Canada, our goal is to ensure that our questions are unique to us, while still staying true to the essence of the real exam. However, if you find a question that you’ve come across from another site, please notify us immediately.

What is a shelf exam?
Back to topShelf exams, also known as subject examinations or clerkship examinations,, are usually standardized tests offered by various online tests question banks that are utilized by medical schools to evaluate the knowledge of medical students at various stages of their medical curriculum. These exams are typically administered at the conclusion of a course or clerkship and are designed to gauge students’ preparedness often referred to as clinical clerkship exams, is typically taken during the third year of medical school, following clinical rotations. These assessments are aimed at assessing students’ practical application of medical knowledge across the various domains and specialities in medicine.

How does NorthernDx differ from other Shelf-Exams?
Back to topUnlike other shelf-exam-style Qbanks, that merely test your knowledge and produce a score, we go a few steps further by providing you with answers and explanations to help you better understand your score. Additionally, our team is constantly adding more and more questions, allowing users to challenge multiple shelfs within the same topic (e.g. 3 different quizzes in Cardiology).
-
Can I reset my subscription after signing up?
Back to topNo. Because we’re a shelf-exam-style Qbank, you’re meant to go through the various quizzes/test banks once.
-
How is this question bank different from others like CanadaQbank or AceQbank?
Back to topWhile we love CanadaQbank and AceQBank for their strengths, at NorthernDx we’re differentiating ourselves by being the First Canadian Shelf-Exam-Style online Qbank specifically tailored for the MCCQE1.
-
What is the best way to use this Qbank?
Back to topThere isn’t one single way to use NorthernDx. If you’re still in medical school, and completing your core/elective clerkships, then use NorthernDx as you complete each clerkship. If you have completed medical school, then supplement your board review with our shelf exams. You can choose to challenge our shelf exams topic by topic or mix it up (like the real exam).

I don’t agree with an answer. What can I do about this?
Back to topWe will be the first to admit, we’re not perfect. While our team tries their best to create unique questions, we will ensure we have credible sources to back it up. But even then, if you’re unhappy with our answer, please write to us and we’ll dig deeper to see what could be the issue. Ultimately, we understand the only reason you’re inquiring is because you are searching for knowledge that will prepare you for your upcoming MCCQE1 and we share the same sentiment! Our hope is that using NorthernDx will help you get that score you dream of!
